Loss, grief, abandonment, multiple moves and the breaks in attachment - all contribute to acting out behavior and other challenges families face when fostering or adopting.  Adoptive families have long searched for therapists who understand their families and can help them address the unique challenges of adoptive parenting.

Participants will learn the ways in which adoption impacts lifelong development, how to help parents understand the layers of complexity that adoption adds to development, how to provide strategies for mitigating the impact through the years, and strategies to help parents address the challenging behaviors of adopted children.

The Mind-Body Connection: Healing Trauma through Yoga

How can a 5000-year old practice help people suffering from symptoms of traumatic stress with the only side effects being increased strength, flexibility, agility and relaxation? New scientific research indicates our sense of selves is deeply anchored in a vital connection with our bodies.  This tells us the wounds of trauma are held deep within the human body, and therefore to fully heal, treatment must include somatic elements.  This instrinsic mind/body connection of yoga provides the practitioner with the vital link between wounds stuck inside the body and the deep healing needed.

Research done by the Trauma Center showed that the Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) model is empirically based and significantly reduced symptoms of PTSD experienced through chronic abuse, domestic violence and war veterans.

This workshop will cover the theoretic underpinnings and key aspects of the model, methodology, class dynamics, an overview of the research, and an experential exercise.
